Fredonia turns into Mudonia for a day

THE INAUGURAL MUDONIA Mud Run in Fredonia on July 22 drew more than 150 children ages 4 through 12 who traversed courses lined with mud and obstacles. Fredonia’s Mudonia Mud Run last Saturday was “an amazing success” and organizers are already gearing up for a second go at the fun-run next year.
Fredonia Administrator Christophe Jenkins said the inaugural event turned out wonderfully because “there were no expectations for what the event was going to be.”
Jenkins said he had a goal of 100 runners for the run, but was ecstatic to see more than 150 runners turn out.
“We feel it really worked out. The kids and families loved it and we cannot wait for it to be a bigger and better event next year,” he said.
The race had three age categories: 4 to 6-year-olds completed a quarter-mile course, 7 to 9-year-olds ran a half-mile course and 10 to 12-year-olds had a one-mile course, all at Marie Krause Park.
The course was, of course, muddy and filled with challenging, safe obstacles.
Soon after crossing the finish line, runners were hosed off by the Fredonia Fire Department.
The race, Jenkins emphasized, came together smoothly because of “tireless work over the past couple of months” by the village’s Public Works Department.
Jenkins also thanked the event’s sponsors, the community for its support, the volunteers and everyone’s team effort.
“Without all of them, something like this could have never happened,” he said.
