Frebeka 5 sign-ups now being accepted until Sept. 17

Registration for the rescheduled Frebeka 5 Family Health Challenge has been extended to Thursday, Sept. 17.

The Fredonia Lions Club rescheduled the annual run/walk to Saturday, Sept. 19, due to concerns about the coronavirus. It was originally scheduled to be held Sunday, June 28.

In changing the date of the race on its website, social media pages, press releases and other formats, organizers last week said they failed to update the registration deadline date.

In-person registrations will be accepted until event time at 8 a.m. Sept.19.

Race activities include the Frebeka 5-mile run through Fredonia and Waubeka, as well as a one-mile kids fun run, two-mile run and one- or two-mile walk on flat trails.

Pets are allowed on the walks. There also is a one-mile kids walk.

The Frebeka 5 Family Health Challenge was started by the Fredonia Lions Club in 1989 as a fundraising project for area community organizations.

The early registration fees are $25 for each race and $10 for the kids walk. Day-of-race registration is $30 for adults and $15 for children. Families of four or more receive a discount.
