Fischer publishes second book
Ellen Fischer of Grafton has gone from an owl to an oboe.
Less than a year after self-publishing her first children’s book, “Furs and Feathers,” which tells the story of an owl who leads neighborhood birds and squirrels to work together in preparing for winter, Fischer penned a second one about a musical instrument.
“Ollie the Oboe” tells the tale of an oboe who joins an orchestra but is nervous about playing with different instruments, not feeling welcome and looking silly when making a mistake.
“Ollie learns the importance of helping someone feel welcome when they are new to a group,” Fischer said.
“I hope that the reader and the child being read to learns to value each of us being unique and to make others feel welcome when they are new to a group. Being new to a group is hard and can make someone nervous. Making someone feel welcome, even just a smile or a ‘hello’ can turn someone’s day from bad to good.”
Fischer plans on publishing a third book.
