Firefighters from 10 communities and many helpers pitched in to save our farm

To Ozaukee Press:

We would like to thank the members of the 10 fire departments that responded to the 4 a.m. fire in 18-degree weather at our farm on Nov 15.

Because of the quick response, professionalism and cooperation among the firefighters of Saukville, Fredonia, Waubeka, Newburg, Port Washington, Grafton, Cedarburg, Belgium, Thiensville and Mequon, our cattle barn, steers and heifers and storage bins were saved.

Our corn dryer and 5,000 bushels of corn were a total loss, but we feel very fortunate because it could have been a lot worse.

We also thank the Ozaukee County sheriff’s deputies and Cedarburg Emergency Government personnel for traffic assistance and the Ozaukee County Highway Department for dispatching a salt truck.

We are especially grateful for the help we received from a number of individuals. John Zausch of Forever Landscaping brought equipment to remove corn from the bin, and JJ Winnnemuller of JJ’s Lawn Sevices came with a skid loader to move smoking corn. Our friends Bob Roden and Matt Faulkner were on the scene quickly to help us move equipment.

The hot food and beverages provided by the Saukville Fire Department Auxiliary were also very much appreciated.

We really appreciate each and every person who helped us that morning.
