The Village of Fredonia has a new ambulance to replace the one totaled in a car crash in January.

The new ambulance was picked up in Sterling, Ill., last Friday.

The replacement cost was $121,381 for the 2018 Ford chassis, with all but the village’s $1,000 deductible covered by insurance, Fire Chief Brian Weyker told Village Board trustees last week.

The rear ambulance compartment from the wrecked vehicle was remounted on the chassis.

The ambulance was involved in a crash the afternoon of Jan. 12 when it was struck by another vehicle at highways 57 and A in Fredonia while responding to a call in Belgium.

Both drivers were treated for injuries and the driver of the other car was cited for failure to yield for an emergency vehicle.
