Fire and rescue responds to I-43 accident
Belgium Fire and Rescue extricated the driver from an overturned semitractor-trailer on I-43 just south of Highway D in the Town of Belgium on Jan. 16.
The truck turned on its side just after 8 a.m. and blocked both southbound lanes, according to an Ozaukee Sheriff’s Department report. The driver, a 61-year-old man who had an Ohio driver’s license, was pinned inside. He was taken to Aurora Medical Center in Grafton with nonlife-threatening injuries.
Belgium Fire Chief Dan Birenbaum said the windshield had to be cut out in order to extricate the driver.
Lanes were closed for two hours.
The truck contained 31,000 pounds of paper products. The accident is under investigation.
Other responding units included the Port Washington Fire Department and Ozaukee County Highway department.
