Financial scams to be topic at senior lunch

Financial exploitation of seniors is the topic of a free luncheon to be held later this month at the Ozaukee County Fairgrounds.

The luncheon for seniors 60 years and older is sponsored by the Ozaukee County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), Interfaith Caregivers and the Elder Financial Empowerment Project.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the North Pavilion at the Ozaukee County Fairgrounds in Cedarburg.

The event is designed to help seniors identify scams, protect themselves and provide information on who they can call for help.

Financial exploitation is one of the most common types of elder abuse in the United States, including Ozaukee County.

The event includes a presentation by Sonia Komisar of the Elder Financial Empowerment Project.

There also will be a game of Scam Singo, hosted by Denise Loveridge of Interfaith Caregivers. Winners of Scam Singo will receive prizes.

All guests will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win door prizes.

Lunch will be catered by Prime Minister restaurant and paid for by the ADRC’s Nutrition Program.

The event is free, but registration is required by Sept. 20.
