Fiber artist featured at Cultural Center

Fiber artist Justine Heinrichs, who finds inspiration in nature, is the July artist in residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

Heinrichs started her professional life as an orchestral musician playing with the Tulsa Philharmonic. She has always had a love for drawing, sculpting and painting and spent several years as an egg artist before transitioning to fiber art in 2017, focusing on wet felting and needle felting.

She has done pet portraitures, wool paintings and wool sculptures with a varied style from realism to fantasy to whimsical. Heinrichs won Best in Show with her wet and needle felted hawk portrait at Sheep and Wool in 2019, and became one of the first Sarafina-certified felting instructors in 2021.

Heinrichs finds inspiration in the natural world with wool and silk as her medium. Her work explores beauty in all things, real and imagined, human and animal. Using fiber allows her to express nature using nature’s bounty.

Heinrichs will demonstrate her craft from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in July, except July 11.

She will also teach a needle felted wool owl workshop from 6 to 8 p.m.  Wednesday, July 24.

Students will learn the basics of needle felting, including how to use barbed needles to compress wool into shapes, how to use color to make sculptures more realistic and how to wrap wool so sculptures come together quickly.

The wool and locks to complete two owls, one at the workshop and one at home, will be provided. All supplies and tools are provided.

The fee is $52 for center members and $62 for nonmembers, plus an additional $15 supply kit fee payable to the instructor on the day of the class.

More information can be found at www.CedarburgCulturalCenter.com.

The center at W62 N546 Washington Ave. is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
