Early balloting prompts village to expect 90% election turnout
Voter turnout in the Village of Fredonia will be around 90% of registered voters, Village Clerk Sandi Tretow said Wednesday.
About a third of the village’s 1,641 registered voters have requested absentee ballots.
Of those 541 ballots, 219 have voted in person.
“Last presidential election, we had 199 absentee voters,” she said.
It’s also more than the 465 people who voted absentee in April when Gov. Tony Evers’ Safer at Home restrictions were in place.
“I still anticipate a lot of people wanting to vote in person on election day. Probably around 90% voter turnout,” she said.
That seems to be the norm in Wisconsin and across the country, as early voting is accounting for 50% or more of registered voters in many communities.
In the Village of Saukville, for instance, about half of all registered voters had requested absentee ballots by end of the day Tuesday.
In the City and Town of Port Washington, half of the voters had requested absentee ballots or had already voted, with that number expected to reach 60% by the end of the week.
Early in-person voting concludes at 5 p.m. Friday at Village Hall.
Absentee Ballots can be requested at www.MyVote.wi.gov through Thursday, Oct. 29. For mail-in ballots to be counted, however, they must be received at Village Hall by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, or brought in person to the polling site at the Fredonia Government Center by 8 p.m. on election day.
