Port Washington High School alumnus Alex Dieringer won his fourth tournament of the year last weekend in dominating fashion.
Dieringer won gold at 79 kilograms at the Yasar Dogu tournament in Istanbul, Turkey, outscoring three opponents by a combined 18-1.
In the final, he beat Akhsarbek Gulaev of Slovakia, 4-1.
In the semifinals, Dieringer beat Asian champion Bahman Teymouri, 4-0.
In his opening match, he won by a 10-0 technical fall over Abubakr Abakarov of Azerbaijan.
Dieringer is scheduled to face world champion Kyle Dake on Aug. 17 in Austin, Texas, for a spot on the U.S. freestyle men’s world team.
The best-of-three match was originally scheduled for June, but an injury to Dake pushed it back to August.
Dieringer is a 2011 graduate of Port High, where he won two state titles and took second once.
He won three NCAA titles at Oklahoma State and the won the Dan Hodge Trophy,  the wrestling equivalent of the Heisman.
Dieringer returns to Port as often as he can. His last visit was in May that included exhibition matches against his former coach Angelo LaRosa and principal Eric Burke. Dieringer also ran a clinic for young wrestlers.
A fundraising page has been set up to help Dieringer with training and travel expenses: www.gofundme.com/alex-dieringer-olympic-dream-fund.
