Dickmann prevails in presidential race

Longtime Saukville Village Board President Barb Dickmann retained her seat in Tuesday’s election, topping Trustee Trevor Seitz by 48 votes.
Dickmann received 320 votes, or 53.78%, to Seitz’s 272 (45.7%). There were three-write-in votes, according to preliminary results from the Ozaukee County clerk’s office.
Turnout at the polls was nearly 23%, with 642 of 2,793 eligible voters casting ballots.
Dickmann has been village president the past 18 years. Seitz was elected as a trustee in 2018.
Seitz suggested a change in how the annual budget is put together, saying unspent money should be put back into the general fund rather than rolled over into the same department to spend on other things.
Dickmann said she disagreed with Seitz’s characterization.
“I am very concerned with keeping a strong conservative budget. We are very careful how we tax the people,” she said, noting that the village has a high credit rating.
Dickmann and Seitz agreed that the village needs more development to pay its bills. They said that opportunities are limited, with all the parcels sold in the business park and no certainty as to when the Ansay development north of Piggly Wiggly — which will require creation of a tax incremental finance district — will come online.
In unopposed races, village trustees Richard Dave Maglio (375 votes), Andy Hebein (373) and Richard Belling (362) all retained their seats.
In the Town of Saukville, Plan Commission member Kevin Kimmes (230 votes) won an unopposed election for town chairman.
Supervisors Curt Rutkowski (189) and Michael Denzien (183) retained seats in unopposed bids for re-election.
In the Village of Newburg, incumbent trustees Sandra Stockhausen (110 votes) and William Sackett (108) retained their seats. Kevin Kohn ran as a write-in candidate. Thirty-two write-in votes were cast, but what names were written in wasn’t yet known at press time.
Newburg Village President David DeLuka (125 votes) retained his seat in an unopposed election.
