Detours for rail crossing work to start Oct. 29

The Highway 33 railroad crossing in Saukville will be closed one week later this month to allow for it to be rebuilt, it was announced last week.

Canadian National railway said in a press release that the crossing at Railroad Street will be closed at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, and reopen by the end of Friday, Nov. 2.

Driveways to local businesses and residences will not be affected, the press release stated.

The Village of Saukville is advising that westbound traffic go south on I-43 to Highway 60, west to Highway I and north to Highway 33.  Eastbound traffic on Highway 33 is being directed south on Highway I to Highway 60, east to I-43 and north to Highway 33.

Canadian National spokesman Patrick Waldron said the crossing reconstruction is part of regular maintenance of the track. Similar work is being done at dozens of other crossings in the state, he said, including the Highway 60 crossing in Grafton the week of Oct. 22.

Saukville Village Administrator Dawn Wagner said the railroad crossing at Cold Springs Road is on the repair schedule next year.
