County to use sales tax revenue to pay for man’s care

A 2024 budget complication faced by county supervisors Monday night was how to pay the medical bills for a man from another country who had a stroke in 2020 while working in Ozaukee County and is now incapacitated, with the county solely responsible for his medical care at a cost of $133,000 a year.

The 55-year-old man, who came to Ozaukee County on a work visa in 1996, was working and living in Grafton when he suffered a stroke in May 2020, leaving him paralyzed on one side, County Health and Human Services Director Liza Drake told members of the county Executive Committee.
