The Ozaukee County Board last week approved a new contract with the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s deputies union.

Under the new contract, unionized deputies would see a 2% wage increase retroactive to Jan. 1, 2019, a 1% increase beginning on July 1, 2019, and a 3% increase on Jan. 1, 2020. Non-represented employees received a 2% pay increase this year.

The Ozaukee County Deputy Sheriff’s Association is the county’s lone remaining union since Act 10 was enacted in 2011, which essentially ended bargaining rights for all state employees except for those in law enforcement.

Under the new contract, jail sergeants will be included in the bargaining unit, while other jail personnel remain unrepresented. There currently are three jail sergeants.

Another change is that union members hired after July 1, 2011, will pay 20% of their health insurance premiums, the same as non-represented employees. That’s up from as low as 11%.
