Cold, wind greet Moonlight Meltdown

The annual Snow Runners Ltd. fundraising event that goes through the village and town of Belgium was held in cool, crisp temperatures and a stiff breeze on Saturday night. Event organizer and founder Kent Schueller said 232 people participated in the 5-kilometer or 10K trail run that starts and ends at Kyotes Bar and Grill. “We had a good night. The event was a success,” Schueller said. Proceeds this year are going to the Belgium and Oostburg fire departments. The club always chooses fire departments along its trail system and other community groups. “Should something happen on the snowmobile, those are the guys coming to help. And our goal is to support other community organizations,” Schueller said. The trails were opened for eight days in January. Clockwise from top left, runners start one of the races. Emma Salter and Traci Gibb posed for a photo. Nora Schueller, 10, held glow sticks. Kyotes Bar and Grill owner Kyle Simpson sold meals from his new food truck.    Photos by Sam Arendt
