Coffee for a Cause

The Java Dock in Port Washington held Coffee for a Cause, a morning to support police officers and other first responders, on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The coffeehouse offered free drinks and bakery in return for donations to emergency workers in the area. The donations were matched by the Java Dock, which gave $500 to I Love You Guys Foundation, which develops crisis protocols, and the Port Fire and EMT Association. The event, which also included a 7 a.m. performance by Port Washington High School’s Limited Edition a capella group (photo above), was organized by Java Dock owners Andy and Angela Hill after they saw the response to a false report of a shooter at Port High the previous week. “This is how we can help,” Andy (kneeling in photo at right), who posed with Mayor Ted Neitzke (left) and students, said. “You can say it’s their job, but this goes beyond that. We’re thankful every parent got to hug their kids after this.”  Photos by Sam Arendt
