The Christmas spirit is alive and well in Belgium

Belgium held its annual European Christmas parade and festivities on Sunday evening. Clockwise from top left: Gabriella Eernisse (left) and Avery Spriggs were ready to serve chicken and dumplings. The Divine Savior Catholic School float showed that Mary said yes to having Jesus. It was the 80th anniversary of the American St. Nick when American soldiers, after liberating Luxembourg from the Nazis, brought back the hundreds-year-old tradition of St. Nicholas giving candy to children on Dec. 5, something that had been missing for nearly five years. Sofia Burkholder enjoyed some of the night’s refreshments. Advanced Restoration’s float showing Christmas trees and fake snow won the float contest. Divine Savior Catholic School’s float took second place and Jacoby Autobody’s “Polar Express” themed utility-terrain vehicle was third. Photos by Sam Arendt
