Chess tourney to be held in Port Jan. 24

A chess tournament for students will be held at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Port Washington Saturday, Jan. 24.

The tournament, a Wisconsin Scholastic Chess Federation event, will include three divisions — K5u500, K8u900 and open.

Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams and the top three individual finishers in each division, with medals presented to all players.

Teams must have at least three players to win a trophy.

Check-in will be from 8 to 8:45 a.m. for round one. Those arriving after 8:30 a.m. may enter round two.

One adult must be present to supervise each team or individual participant in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The fee is $20 per player in advance or $25 at the door.

Registration may be done online at www.wisconsinscholasticchess.org by 11 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22.

Breakfast, snacks and lunches will be available to purchase.
