With top scorer Alex Huibregtse out resting, the Grafton High School boys’ basketball team got contributions from everyone else last Friday at home against Milwaukee Pulaski.

Literally everyone. Every Black Hawk scored at least two points in a 107-47 demolition of the Rams.

“It was good for the other guys. They all stepped up. Everybody scored. Everybody contributed,” coach Damon James said.

Forward Brock Heffner led 15 Hawks in scoring with 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the field. Tyler Tsui went 3-for-4 on three-pointers and scored 15 points. Zach Weir shot 5-for-6 from the field and scored 13 points. Jacob Aleknavicius went 4-for-4 from the field and scored 11.

Heffner had nine rebounds and J.P. Benzschawel had eight, along with eight points and three blocks. Heffner led the team with five assists.

The team had 35 assists to 10 turnovers, “which is a really good ratio to have against any opponent,” James said.

They made 12 steals.

“Defensively, we had a lot of deflections and we had a good amount of steals. We were able to get a lot of stops,” James said.

The Hawks shot 39-for-53 from the field (74%) and made 10 of 20 three-pointers.

The game was over early as the Hawks had a 58-24 lead at halftime.

“Those are fun. Those guys all work hard. They all deserve to play. Obviously, not everybody can play but they all work hard and deserve to play,” James said.

“Everybody played well. They seriously did. Everybody played well collectively.”

The final score wasn’t a total shock. Pulaski, 0-5, allowed 111 points in another game this season and allowed more than 90 points twice.

“They’re still trying to figure out who they are,” James said.

He was pleased his team didn’t look past the Rams.

“You never underestimate any opponent and you never look ahead. Our guys did a good job focusing on who we were playing Friday night,” James said.

The Hawks, 4-2 in the North Shore Conference and 7-2 overall, were to play at Slinger (5-1 NSC) on Tuesday. They host Nicolet (5-1 NSC) on Friday.
