Celebrating the Fourth of July in Port

Downtown Port Washington was a sea of red, white and blue as the city celebrated Independence Day with a parade, decorated bike contest and a host of old-fashioned, family oriented activities in Veterans Park on July 4. The winners in the decorated bike, wagon and scooter contest were (top photo, front row, from left) Lucy Frank, Mayla Pleitner, Myla Jackson, Kaitlyn Johnson, Jack Piotrowski, William Bardwell, Ruby Boblick, (back row) Brynn Lewein, Jose Camilo, Lucy Allen, Natalie Flanagan, Kenady Windsor, Nora Yanke, Aidan Bailie and Judson Allen. All of the youngsters were from Port except for Judson and Lucy Allen, who are from Alexandria, Va.,Lucy Frank of Belgium and Myla Jackson of Fort Riley, Kan. Henry Saffran of Port Washington (lower left photo) sported a musical pair of shades during the parade. Responding enthusiastically during the march through downtown were festively clad lifeguards Regan Surges (left in bottom right photo) and Olyvia Marinez.                  Photos by Sam Arendt
