Celebrating a doggie graduation

The Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 and its Auxiliary celebrated on March 12 the training for two of the service dogs it is purchasing for area veterans. The celebration marked the advancement of Doc, who has completed the first round of his training but was unable to attend the event, and Oliver, who has graduated from training. Clockwise from above photo: Oliver wore a special mortarboard to the event, where he posed with (from left) Pam Wittkopp, executive director of Dogs2DogTags; veteran Jesse Lovell of Saukville, who has been paired with Oliver; Post Commander John Jacque; and Diane Burkhalter, president of the Auxiliary. Burkhalter and Karen Kuttler were dressed to the nines for the Decade Dance held by the Legion in coordination with the celebration. Lovell held Oliver’s graduation certificate as they walked through the crowd .                                                                        Photos by Sam Arendt
