Cedar Grove-Belgium wins battle of the bands and cans
The Cedar Grove-Belgium High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams may not have fared well in hosting rival Oostburg last Friday, but the band and the community’s charitable giving were champions. The high school band won the battle of the bands contest — both schools’ principals and athletic directors voted — and the Rockets won the battle of the cans, 749-410. The Rockets’ cans were given to the Cedar Grove food pantry and Oostburg’s went to the First Reformed Church Food Pantry. “Battle of the Bands was a lot of fun and a great community event. The gym was packed and created an awesome atmosphere for all involved,” Cedar Grove-Belgium High School band director Alanna Ford said. “I guess the playing spoke for itself,” band member Tara Schmitz said. “We got the band trophy and the can trophy. We’re walking away with some hardware.” For more photos, see the printed and online editions of Ozaukee Press. Photo by Mitch Maersch
