Cedar Grove-Belgium track teams look to improve
The Cedar Grove-Belgium High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams didn’t perform as well as hoped last Friday, but new coach Lindsay Abraham looks forward to seeing improvement.
The Rocket girls scored 35 points and tied for sixth place of eight teams at the Vanderpan Invitational in Sheboygan Falls.
Plymouth won with 165.5 points, followed by Sheboygan Falls, 157; Kewaskum, 145.5; Random Lake, 67.5; Southern Door, 47; Cedar Grove-Belgium and Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, 35; and Kohler, 20.5
The boys scored 24 points and came in last.
Sheboygan Falls won with 158.33, followed by Plymouth, 152.33; Kewaskum, 133.33; Kohler, 92; Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, 52; Southern Door, 42; and Random Lake, 31.
“The athletes came in a little flat,” Abraham said. “They still did their best and came in and competed, which is what we ask each meet.”
For the girls, Rocket sophomore Faith Konzak took third in the 3,200-meter run in a personal record 12 minutes, 58.21 seconds, and freshman Hadley Heimerman was fourth in 12:58.55.
The 1,600 relay of Lyndsay Sass, Elise Brill, Tara Schmitz and Greta Beernink was third in 4:39.12.
The 3,200 relay of Heimerman, Brill, Sass and Konzak was third in 11:04.21.
The 800 relay of Schmitz, Alyssa Winter, Allie Jaworski and Beernink was fourth in 2:06.26.
Sass was fifth in the 1,600 in 6:06.84, and Brill was seventh in 6:13.64.
Winter was eighth in the triple jump in 26-2.5.
Williams, relays lead Rocket boys
Senior Owen Williams took second in the 110 hurdles in 17.83 seconds.
The 800 relay of Gabe Egan, Williams, David Martinez and Joseph Carrasquillo was fourth in 1:40.2.
The 1,600 relay of Carrasquillo, Martinez, Cole Ketterhagen and Logan Ketterhagen was fourth in 3:51.02.
Egan was sixth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches, and eighth in the 100 in 12.34.
Logan Ketterhagen was eighth in the 1,600 in 5:09.03. Michael Kuerschner was eighth in the 3,200 in 11:36.17.
Egan, Beightol win at Hilbert
On May 4 at Hilbert, the Rocket boys scored 43 points and tied for third with Manitowoc Lutheran. Hilbert won with 143 points, followed by St. Mary Catholic, 79. Reedsville had 25.
Egan won the high jump by clearing 5-6 and was third in the 100 in 11.87. Caleb Beightol won the 100 in 11.64.
Williams was second in the 110 hurdles in 17.16 and was third in discus in 100-1.
The 3,200 relay of Cole Ketterhagen, Kuerschner, Ian Andersen and Ryan Fleuchaus was third in 9:57.3.
Austin Salmon was third in triple jump at 25 and Martinez was third in the 400 in 58.07. The 1,600 relay of Kuerschner, Andersen, Alan Celedon and Martinze was third in 4:17.27.
Girls score big in relays
The girls scored 35 points and finished last at Hilbert. Manitowoc Lutheran won with 105, followed by St. Mary Catholic, 82; Hilbert, 71; and Reedsville, 50.
Beernink won the 400 in 1:08.14. The 3,200 relay of Heimerman, Brill, Sass and Konzak won in 11:00.92 and the 1,600 relay of the same girls won in 4:39.65.
The Rockets were to compete at Howards Grove on Tuesday and host a quadrangular meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, in their final home meet of the season.
