Accomplished Cedar Grove-Belgium High School alumni may soon be honored with plaques lining a wall at their alma mater.

The Cedar Grove-Belgium School Board last week approved the formation of a hall of fame with two wings — one for athletics and the other for distinguished alumni and friends.

Supt. Chad Brakke said nominations would start in February. One committee would select inductees to both wings with the inaugural class inducted in fall.

Brakke suggested holding a weekend of celebration. School tours would be held on a Friday before a football game, and inductees would be honored at halftime.

The next day, the high school commons would hold a dinner and ceremony.

“We’re going to do it up nice. They’ll be able to speak. We’ll have a stage, have (dinner) catered in, and we’ll want to do it first class,” Brakke said.

“I think it’s going to be a pretty nice way to continue to honor our alumni and contributors over time.”

Seed money for plaques and to ready the walls is estimated to cost between $5,000 and $10,000.

“This will also be an opportunity for our naming rights campaign,” he said.

Brakke said he also wants to reignited an alumni Facebook page that was started in 2010 but hasn’t been active.

“Can we start building that alumni base?” he asked.
