A bike ride that paid off

Mason Thill of the Town of Fredonia stopped by the Port Washington Fire Station Thursday, Jan. 6, to check out the cordless smoke ejector he donated to the fire department with Mike Didier (center), president of the Port Washington Fire and EMS Association, and Adam Lanser, vice president of the organization. The ejector is essentially a large fan used by the department to ventilate houses after fires. Thill, whose grandfather Marc Eernisse was a long-time Port fire chief, raised roughly $5,400 to buy the unit through donations and pledges for a 103-mile bike ride Thill took from his home to his grandparents’ Door County home last July (right). Thill plans to make the ride an annual one, with the proceeds going to fire departments throughout the area.                   photo by Joe DeBoer
