A big score for the Pirates

It couldn’t have worked out any better for Port Washington High School, where on Thursday Aug.18, just hours after this photo was taken, the new football field scoreboard purchased with a large donation from the Port Gridiron Club showed that the Pirates beat the Bulldogs from Cedarburg High School 21-9 to open the season. Standing by the scoreboard prior to the game were (from left) Port High Principal Rachel Biertzer, Mike Goeden of the Gridiron Club, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Nate Hinze, head football coach John Bunyan, Assistant Principal Dan Solorzano and Jen Mrozek of the Gridiron Club. The club donated $30,000 and the School District contributed $15,000 for the Daktronics scoreboard. Also new this year is the location of the scoreboard, which was moved from behind the south end zone, where it was obscured by goalposts, to the northwest side of the field.         Photo by Sam Arendt
