The former Dairy Queen building in downtown Port Washington is about to get a new life.

Port Washington State Bank, which owns the building at 218 E. Washington St., has hired The Redmond Co. to turn the structure into a community room for meetings and events, bank officials announced Tuesday.

The space will feature audio-visual equipment, a 30-person outdoor patio space, catering kitchen and handicapped-accessible bathrooms and building access.

The room will accommodate as many as 50 people — similar to the bank’s Lakeview Room at the corner of Franklin and Main streets, which will be converted into a multipurpose space for the bank’s offices next door.

“Our Lakeview Room has been used frequently by nonprofit groups and our internal teams for meetings and events, but our new, detached room will be more functional and allow for better privacy,” Bank President and Chief Operating Officer James Schowalter said.

“As our bank has grown, so too have the number of employees who work here. Now that the pandemic has subsided and we can safely collaborate in person, it’s time to provide our teams with more open space for informal meetings, breaks and lunches.”

The bank has 80 employees at its Franklin Street office.

Information on renting the new community room will be available on the bank’s website in late summer.
