A bad winter for skating, but how about basketball?

Holding his red flag and wearing a “rink closed sign,” the wooden snowman in Grafton’s Veterans Memorial Park has been doing yeoman’s duty this winter warning of thin ice on the Milwaukee River. The weather, in fact, was warm enough last weekend that instead of skaters and ice fishermen on the river, (from left in photo at right) Matthew Lanctot, Will Brouillette, Matthew Olson and Colin Garvey played basketball in the park.
