Artists Guild juried exhibit starts Sept. 2
The Cedarburg Artists Guild’s annual juried exhibit will be at the Cedarburg Cultural Center from Friday, Sept. 2, until Sunday, Oct. 9.
An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Sept. 2.
The guild is comprised of artists from Ozaukee and Washington counties who work in a variety of styles and media, including painting, photography and sculpture.
This year’s exhibit was juried by Debra Brehmer and Rick Hartman, who collaboratively selected the participating artists.
Brehmer is the owner and director of the Portrait Society Gallery of Contemporary Art in Milwaukee and manages its related nonprofit, On the Wing.
Her work encompasses writing, curating, and teaching.
In recent years, she has worked on a series of essays about well-known historical works of art and their contemporary value.
Hartman owns and operates the Gallery of Wisconsin Art, which was established online in 2013 and operated as a brick-and-mortar gallery from 2016 to 2019 in West Bend. The online gallery continues today to promote and represent both contemporary and emerging artists, as well as early and historic artists.
Hartman, who has a bachelor of fine arts degree in ceramics and art education and a master of fine arts in graphic design and photography, taught at Elkhorn Area High School for five years.
He spent more than 30 years as a graphic designer and creative director and was the principle and creative director for Hartman Design in Menomonee Falls for 15 years. The Cultural Center is at W62 N546 Washington Ave.
