Army veteran is next military speaker

David Kawika Lau is the guest speaker for the Nov. 17 meeting of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Military Historians in Grafton.

Lau, a decorated Army veteran, is an internationally known speaker on leadership, wellness and resilience. 

He will share stories of his 21 years in the Army, as well as time with the U.S. Border Patrol in Texas and the Federal Air Marshall Service as an academy instructor. He has also received the Federal Law Enforcement Leadership Center’s Instructor of the Year award.

In 2012, while serving while embedded as counterinsurgency advisor with Afghan National Security Forces, Lau suffered severe injuries from a suicide bomb. He was awarded a Bronze Star, Legion of Merit and Purple Heart and spent years recovering in various hospitals.

Admission is $25, which  includes a  meal will be catered by Port Hotel Moonlight Tavern. A limited number of $10 seats will be available for just the program.

Doors to the Rose-Harms American Legion Hall at 1540 13th Ave. open at 5:15 p.m. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. with the program at 7 p.m.
