April events at Grafton library announced

April activities at the Grafton library include everything from a program on the Mitchell Park Domes to storytimes and book clubs.

The Mitchell Park Domes, their history and the horticulture they present will be discussed during a 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, session led by Interpretive Educator Paula Zamiatowski.

The program in the lower level meeting room will include information on the conservatory’s permanent collection of more than 1,800 plant species and its mission to inspire people through plants.

A jigsaw puzzle tournament for people of all ages will be held in the lower level meeting room from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 17.

Teams of three to six people will compete to see who can complete a 500-piece puzzle the fastest.

Each team will have 90 minute to complete the puzzle.

Registration is limited to seven teams.

A Lego brick challenge and free play time will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in the lower level meeting room.

The program is geared for children ages 6 to 11, but Duplo and Mega Bloks will also be available.

“Knit Happens” will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in the upper level meeting room.

Library Director Amanda Kloppmann will lead the session, which is for knitters of all ages and abilities.

The Dungeons and Dragons Club will meet from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, April 9 and 23, in the lower level meeting room.

Players of all skill levels are invited. The sessions are intended for people ages 12 to 18.

Reference librarian Karl Suechting will teach a session on exploring library databases and resources such as Newsbank, Novelist and Ebscohost from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the Grafton Senior Center.

The Grafton Library Book Club will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the upper level meeting room.

The featured book for April is “Death in Her Hands” by Ottessa Moshfegh.  Copies are available for check out at the library.

The club will be led by Suechting.

The Stitch Clique Fiber Arts Club will meet from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, in the lower level meeting room. The club is intended for people who like to knit, embroider, crochet and participate in other fiber arts.

Those attending can bring their own supplies or use those available. Experience is not required, since members can learn from others.

The group is intended for people ages 12 to 18.

The Readers of the Night Book Club will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in the lower level meeting room.

The book for April is “The Alice Network” by Kate Quinn.

A kids and family movie showing will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in the lower level meeting room.

A writer’s workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in the lower level meeting room.

The workshop is open to area writers interested in novels, short stories and fan fiction. The group offers encouragement, critique and creative feedback to writers, who are encouraged but not required to bring 1,000 words of their work to share.

The movie “Wonka” will be shown at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, in the lower level meeting room.

The movie is rated PG, and it runs 117 minutes. Those attending may bring snacks.

Blackout poetry will be the topic of a 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25, program in the upper level meeting room.

The event, intended to celebrate National Poetry Month, will teach the art of blackout poetry using discarded books and magazines. It is intended for people ages 12 to 18.

A family fun story time will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, April 2, 9, 16 and 23. It includes two to three stories, songs, action rhymes and other activities.

Toddler storytime will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays, April 3, 10, 17 and 24.

It will feature stories, repetitive rhymes, fingerplays, music, and movement to promote the development of language and early literacy skills for children as old as 3.
