Anderson is artist in residence for August

Painter Ellen Anderson is the August artist-in-residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

Using light and atmosphere to tell stories, Anderson’s paintings often show a myth-like reality of a time and place of importance and the power that nature lends.

Anderson paints in her studio on the Milwaukee River in Mequon. Currently, the themes for her oil paintings are Wisconsin nature and women — apt themes since wild areas are important to her and Anderson began a women’s series of works last year to portray the strength, wisdom and complexities of women in her life.

Anderson is an award-winning artist whose works have been shown in numerous shows and galleries throughout the area.

She will demonstrate her art forms at the center from noon to 3 p.m. on Aug. 4, 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 17 and 31.

She will also teach the workshop “Into the Woods: Painting In Oils,” on Sept. 20 and 27. More information about the class can be found at

The center is at W62 N546 Washington Ave.
