Albin Vande Boom

The heavens needed some cheerfulness and smiles so the Lord called upon Albin Vande Boom on Jan. 30, 2021. Albin was 89 years old.

Albin was born on the family farm Sept. 23, 1931, in the Town of Saukville. Albin worked with his dad on the farm.

When he got married, he owned a half tractor. He worked on the farm full time until 1955, when he started driving semi-trucks. Albin farmed on weekends and drove a long-haul truck four to five days a week in the Midwest.

Albin was truck driver for 32 years. He was an owner-operator and designed and ordered his trucks. He let his daughters pick out his last truck. Yes, he drove a pink and purple truck. He was recognized as a Million Miler trucker and was a Teamster member since 1955.

On Oct. 25, 1952, he married Violet (Waldkirch). They were married at Holy Trinity Church in Newburg. Together they raised three daughters.

In Albin’s free time he liked to travel. Albin and Violet traveled to many states and Canada. They were either camping, taking bus trips, driving or traveling by train. They always made time to visit relatives and friends along the way, including the East Coast, West Coast, Canada, Alaska and all states between.

They drove to Alaska eight times (even before the roads were paved) and even partied with the border patrols down in Texas.

Albin was a serious hunter and not only hunted in Alaska, but also out West and Alabama. Some of his trophy game were antelope, moose, ram, boar, deer and more.

Albin loved to entertain and party. He was a very social person “By Golly.”

He hosted anniversaries, truck driving parties, birthdays and our annual Easter egg hunt in the barn for 30 years. He like to help neighbors, and that is how he got involved in pig roasting. He worked for Mark Dickmann doing pig roasts for weddings and parties.

Albin was a Catholic who lived the faith by helping others and was involved in church activities and programs. He belonged to St. John XXIII Parish, Immaculate Conception Church in Saukville and was an usher for many years. He helped put up Christmas decorations and helped with the annual church picnics, especially when the picnics were three-day events.

Albin was a member of the Holy Name Society of Immaculate Conception, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and held the office of chief ranger.

Albin was in a sheepshead club for many years and a Farm Bureau member.

He also held the position of supervisor for the Town Board in Saukville. He was a member of the 4-Seasons Snowmobile Club and was active and involved with running the snowmobile races in Newburg.

He loved his grandchildren and taught them many skills, driving tractors, making grasshoppers, picking stones and entertaining. Even up to his last days, he enjoyed their visits.

He is survived by his loving wife Violet of 68 years; daughters Sheila Zeckmeister of Newburg, Cindy (Cal) Stageman of Alaska and Donna (Randy) Cardarelle of Saukville; Debbie (John) Goll was like a daughter to him; grandchildren Shaun (Samantha), Melissa (Dave), Samantha, Maranda, Vince (Alyssa), Claire, AnnaLisa (Travis) and Bethany (Shane); great-grandchildren Alexys, Auroa, Terrick, Arianna, Ryder, Isaiah and Madison; and brother Lawrence Vande Boom of Georgia.

Albin is further survived by many special nieces and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Agatha and Leo Vande Boom, sister Leona Riley, sister-in-law Sarah, brothers-in-law Bill and Leo and son-in-law Jerry Zeckmeister.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, at noon at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 521 Congress Dr., Newburg, WI 53060. Father Karl Acker will preside with Deacon Mike Koebel co-officiating.

Albin’s family will receive visitors at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass at noon. Immediately following Mass, Albin will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Saukville.
