Abts leads Grafton track
Jordan Abts helped the Grafton High School boys’ track and field team to sixth place of 16 teams at the Madison West Relays last Saturday. The senior won the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 7.5 inches and took fourth in the 55-meter dash in 6.74 seconds.
He helped two relays as well. The 800 relay team of Joey Giorgi, Clayton Kleckner, Dominic Voiland and Abts took third in 1:38.57, and the 400 relay team of Giorgi, Kleckner, Mason Hunt-Olkowski and Abts was sixth in 48.49.
The Black Hawks scored 38 points. Slinger won with 92. Port Washington took 12th with 22 points.
Grafton’s Zander Lichosik took third in the 3,200 in 9:48.18, and Victor Geiser was fourth in the 1,600 in 4:49.84.
Voiland was seventh in the 200 in 25.62, and Giorgi was eighth in the 55 in 6.87.
Port was led by Will Stopczynski’s second place in the long jump with a 20.475 and got help from a couple of veterans who were finally ready for competition.
“We still have not been at full strength yet in a meet, but it was nice to have Deron Spicer and Jake Lippe competing for us at this meet,” coach Mark Pasten said.
The 400 relay team of Spicer, Xavier Deal, George Klassen and Lippe took third in 47.44.
The 800 relay team of Deal, Jake Markiewicz, William Handziak and Klassen was fifth in 1:39.62.
Lippe was sixth in the high jump by clearing 5-4. Ben Pasten was seventh in the 1,600 with a personal-best 4:54.18.
Port girls score in the 1,600 run
The Port girls scored 22 points to take 21st of 39 teams at the Titan Invite in Oshkosh on March 26. Freedom won with 113.
The Pirates went 4-5-6 in the 1,600. Jill Cavanaugh was fourth in 5:52.35 and Katie Erlandson was fifth in 5:54.61. Mira Stimac ran in a different heat and took sixth in 5:55.98.
“Jill and Katie did a nice job running together. That was a big improvement from the mile runs they ran earlier in the year,” coach Joe Adamak said.
“Katie ran a 6:12 at conference. If she can get 17 seconds better every week...”
Grace Schumacher was fourth in the 400 in 1:05.9.
Jane Kautz took seventh in the 60 hurdles in 11.13. Noel Konitzer took seventh in pole vault by clearing 7-6. Madi Doll took eighth in high jump with a 4-8.
The Lady Pirates complete the indoor season at Whitewater on Saturday.
The boys start the outdoor season April 17 at a Miwaukee Lutheran invite.
Grafton’s boys and girls start the outdoor season on April 16 at Whitefish Bay.
