One step closer to a Saukville-Grafton Fire Department

The Grafton and Saukville fire departments are inching closer to becoming the Grafton-Saukville Fire Department after a resolution approved by the Saukville Village Board on Tuesday brings the neighboring towns in on the process of consolidation.

“The resolution is very similar to what was already approved by the villages, but now the towns (of Grafton and Saukville) are involved,” Grafton Assistant Fire Chief Mathew Karpinski said, referencing a four-year effort toward consolidation.

A chance to meet a Brewer from right next door

Members of a Saukville youth baseball team and its coach took advantage of the opportunity to meet Milwaukee Brewers player and Ozaukee High School graduate Owen Miller during an event at the Fredonia branch of Port Washington State Bank last week. The Backyard Bash for Owen Miller event raised $2,344, and the bank matched that to contribute $4,688 to the Northern Ozaukee School District in Fredonia for its playground project.  Photo by Sam Arendt

Library to host Rockin’ with Leonardo concert

The Parents’ Choice Award-winning musician Leonardo will bring his “Rockin’ with Leonardo: All Together Now” show to the Oscar Grady Library in Saukville on Saturday, Aug. 5.

The Chicago musician with his signature orange guitar will perform a humorous, high-energy concert that entertains, educates and empowers young rockers from noon to 1 p.m.

He will perform familiar hits and original tunes.

The event will be held outdoors at the library unless it has to be moved indoors because of inclement weather.

The Oscar Grady Library is at 151 S. Main St.

Bonfire Thursdays to benefit Mel’s Charities

July 12, 2023

Bonfire Thursdays are set to continue this week at the Riverview Inn in Saukville. 

Festivities will run from 4 to 8 p.m. S’more kits, pizza pudgie pie kits, hot dog kits and beverages will all be available for purchase at the event. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Mel’s Charities. No carry-ins are allowed.

Around-the-clock access pays off for YMCA

Compared to other 24/7 gyms, the Feith Family Ozaukee YMCA has one big advantage — “we actually have a gymnasium,” Teri Kermendy, director of marketing and communications, said.

“We have a basketball court and indoor facilities,” she said. “If you want, you can come and shoot hoops at midnight.”

That was made possible by the Y opening up 24/7 in May, with members now able to use a key fob to enter the building even when staff are not present.

Kermendy said it took awhile for the facility to be ready for the change.

A picture-perfect Fourth in Saukville

It was a picture-perfect afternoon for a parade as Saukville celebrated the Fourth of July on Tuesday. Clockwise from top left: Sienna Kins, 7, C.J. Pike and Payton Berth were dressed for the occasion. Members of the Village Sno-Seekers snowmobile club showed they know how to have fun in summer as well as winter. The crew of Century Acres farm distributed cold beers to parade watchers while members of the Saukville Fire Department tossed candy to kids along the route. Investigation continues into cause of house fire in town

July 05, 2023

By the time the fire department arrived at a Town of Saukville house fire in the 2200 block of Highway 33 on Friday night the “fire had already been burning for quite awhile,” Grafton and Saukville Fire Chief Bill Rice said.

The fire, which was initially reported as a garage fire, caused extensive damage to the house’s structure but resulted in no injuries.

A floor in the house had collapsed and the attached garage was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.

Community meal to be held on July 8

July 05, 2023

A community meal will be held at Parkside Community Church in Saukville from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8.

The summer cookout, provided by Lumen Christi Catholic Church, includes barbecue chicken, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, corn on the cob, watermelon and cookies.

In-person and to-go meals will be available.

The  Ozaukee Food Alliance sponsors the meal.

$5.6M treatment plant project nears completion

June 28, 2023

A $5.6 million renovation of the Saukville Wastewater Treatment Facility is “nearing completion,” according to Wastewater Utility Supt. Ray Hartmann.

The upgrades bring the plant into compliance with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources regulations established in 2010 that significantly reduce allowed levels of phosphorous discharged into the Milwaukee River.

Farmers market draws vendors, customers
