Fire Department to hold open house Saturday

The Saukville Fire Department is set to host a  fire prevention open house this weekend.

The open house will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Saukville Fire Department, 520 W. Dekora St.

The event will be host to a plethora of events, including fire truck rides, a coloring contest, an obstacle course, a car fire demonstration and tours of the fire house.

“We are hoping for a nice turnout from the village. It will be a great place for the whole family to stop by, have some fun and learn about fire safety,” Saukville Fire Chief Bill Rice said.

Library to host storytimes for kids, events for teens and adults

The Oscar Grady Library in Saukville will host storytimes throughout October as well as a number of other programs for people of all ages.

Morning storytimes, which are held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 31, give children ages 2 to 5 and their caregivers the opportunity to enjoy rhymes, songs, dancing and stories.

Families are invited to evening storytimes from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 1.

Children can come dressed in their pajamas and bring their favorite stuffed animals to hear a story and sing songs before bedtime.

Hwy. W flood mitigation work to be delayed

Reconstruction of Highway W in Saukville will be pushed back by as long as two years as county officials have discovered that they don’t have to spend state grant money on the project until June 2027, county supervisors were told last week.

Originally it was expected the project north of Highway 33 along the Milwaukee River would be completed in 2025, but as the state operates on a fiscal year basis, the $1.5 million in state grant money would have to be spent before July 2025, county Highway Commissioner Jon Edgren told supervisors on the Public Works Committee last week.

Scout joins Lions Club in mission to help people see

Port Washington High School sophomore Eric Krentz built five eyeglass donation boxes for the Saukville Lions as part of his Eagle Scout project.

Krentz partnered with Don Clark, owner of Village Printer and president of the Saukville Lions Club, to create something “a little more appealing,” for the Lions’ ongoing eyeglass collection boxes.

“In the past, we just had a cardboard bucket or five gallon plastic tub for the eyeglasses. Now, we have something that looks great, is a lot more appealing and brings a little more attention to the cause,” Clark said.

Pantry’s Food Truck Frenzy draws a hungry crowd to Grady Park

The Ozaukee Food Alliance brought a crowd to Grady Park in Saukville Saturday for an afternoon and evening of fun for people of all ages during its Food Truck Frenzy, which benefitted the food pantry’s mission of feeding an increasing number of people in need. A food pantry serving a growing number of people in need while it works to create a larger, more welcoming facility will bring seven food trucks to Saukville’s Grady Park on Saturday, Sept. 23, for the third annual Ozaukee Food Alliance Food Truck Frenzy.

The event, which runs from 3 to 9 p.m., will also feature two bands, a kids’ zone and cornhole tournament.

Bingo brings them out in Saukville

Man, 66, who overdosed faces drug charges

A 66-year-old Saukville man who overdosed on drugs in January is now charged in Ozaukee County Circuit Court with possession of narcotics.

Terry A. Neumann, who is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, failed to appear for his initial court appearance last week. A warrant was issued and he has since been arrested.

According to a criminal complaint, a police officer who was called to the home of Neumann’s father at 1:49 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, found emergency medical workers tending to Neumann, who was unconscious but breathing, in a basement bedroom.

Report of Dries Street fight leads to abuse charges

Police officers who responded to a report of screaming, swearing and a physical altercation Saturday in the 600 block of N. Dries St., in Saukville arrested a 36-year-old man who now faces a domestic abuse felony.

The man, who is accused of shoving and choking his wife, was charged this week in Ozaukee County Circuit Court with strangulation and suffocation as well as a misdemeanor count of domestic abuse disorderly conduct.

Ozaukee Press is not naming the man to protect the identity of his wife.

Saukville officials shocked by movie theater closing

The Marcus Theatre in Saukville, which opened to much fanfare in 2005, is closing Sunday, Sept. 17, Marcus officials have announced.

“It’s unfortunate,” Village President Andy Hebein said Tuesday. “I think it was an important asset for the community. It was a unique business that gave people an option to get out of the house and enjoy some entertainment. Anyone north of Mequon, you don’t have too many options.”

Not only did the theater provide area residents with a place to enjoy a movie and socialize, it also provided many people with jobs, he noted.
