Village of Saukville trustees last week agreed in concept to lease land to Wisconsin Electric Power Co. (WEPCO) so the firm can erect about 2,000 solar panels on a vacant site east of the village water treatment plant.

If finalized, the project would be one of the first in the state built under WEPCO’s Solar Now program, which the state Public Service Commission approved in December.

Saukville’s Independence Day festivities will kick off with a 1 p.m. parade on Thursday, July 4.

The parade starts at Rebel Road and South Main Street to Grady Park.

The fun will continue at Grady Park with food, music and other family-friendly fun.

Landt-Thiel American Legion Post 470 and its auxiliary is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the national American Legion organization and will have three tents set up for the festivities. There will be face painting and coloring for children, ice cream and popcorn treats. 

    Town of Saukville Chairman Don Hamm escaped serious injury when he fell off a piece of farm machinery recently, cutting open his leg and breaking two ribs.

    Hamm, who operates a dairy farm at 4576 Blueberry Rd., said an infection set in after the incident, forcing him to stay in the hospital a few days, but that he is recovering.

    “I was told to not work for a couple days,  but I could probably go back to work now,” he said Friday. “But I’ll take it easy.”

    The Saukville Town Board on Tuesday adopted two ordinances that pave the way for a retreat on Highway 33 to operate as a bed-and-breakfast inn and a wedding barn.

    A new ordinance allowing a bed-and -breakfast inn makes it a permitted use within a B-1 business district and closely follows the state administrative definition for such a place.

    Such a property can have no more than eight rooms and must be owner-occupied, have no more than 20 people staying at the site at any one time and serve only breakfast.
