Anniversary: Jim and Jennie Greisch

Jim and Jennie Greisch celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a family gathering on Saturday, April 29.

Jim Greisch and Jennie Weiss were high school sweethearts at Port Washington High School who married on May 2, 1953, at Immaculate  Conception Catholic Church in Saukville.

They moved to Port Washington, where they lived throughout their married life.

Mr. Greisch owned and operated Greisch Plumbing until he retired. He is also a longtime member of the Port Washington Lions Club.

Cedar Grove student named to dean’s list

Alyssa Stockero of Cedar Grove has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Palmer College of Chiropractic.

The school is in Davenport, Iowa.

Port student inducted into Phi Beta Kappa

Lauren Krist of Port Washington was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa academic society at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on April 15.

Krist was among 200 students in the College of Letters and Science inducted into the society.

Inductees must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.80 or above and meet math, language and breadth requirements.

Registrations taken for Sweat4Vets

May 03, 2023

Registrations are being accepted for the annual Sweat4Vets walk on Saturday, May 20.

Sweat4Vets is a 2-1/2-mile walk between the Rose-Harms American Legion Hall in Grafton and the Peter Wollner Legion Hall in Cedarburg to raise money for veterans’ causes.

This year, proceeds will go to the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative.

Early registration through May 1 will be $35. Registration after May 1 will be $40, and day-of registration will be $45.

Will clematis ‘Prince Charles’ be among coronation flowers?

Draft riot is topic for speaker on May 16

“Captain Pabst and the Port Washington Draft Riot” is the topic for the Port Washington Historical Society’s speaker series on Tuesday, May 16.

The 7 p.m. program will be presented by David Zeh, the lead museum assistant at the Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee.

Zeh, who has a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in public history and museum studies,  specializes in researching late 19th and early 20 century American history as well as the Indigenous mounds of the Midwest.

Senior Games to be held May 31 to June 21

The Ozaukee Senior Games will be held from May 31 to June 21.

The opening day includes a walk and dessert social.

Other events in the competition include bocce ball, bowling, mini-golf, horseshoes, cornhole, swimming, bicycling, 8-ball, pickleball, cribbage, Mexican train dominoes and mah jongg.

The events are held at the Senior Centers in Port Washington, Grafton and Cedarburg and nearby sites.

To mark the end of the games, an awards breakfast will be held.
