Harrington harvest hike is set for Sept. 23

A harvest hike will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Harrington Beach State Park in the Town of Belgium.

The hike, hosted by the Friends of Harrington Beach State Park, also includes live music by Clover Wonder from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Those walking may create their own walking sticks during a 5 p.m. program at the quarry shelter.

Primitive tools are topic for program

A program on making primitive tools will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Sunday, Sept. 17, at the Cedarburg Bog.

The class will be led by Bill Niehaus, who has studied the bows and arrows used historically by Native Americans.

Niehaus will demonstrate the materials used, methods of construction and function and effectiveness of bows and arrows.

The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Cedarburg Bog.

There is no fee but a $5 donation is suggested.

Nicolet, Marquette to be discussed Sept. 19

“Nicolet and Marquette in Wisconsin: The History of the Early French Period from 1534 to 1675” will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Patrick Jung, a professor at Milwaukee School of Engineering, will present the program at the Port Washington Community Center.

Jung will discuss recent historical and archaeological discoveries into the early French period in the western Great Lakes that are redefining our understanding of the French explorers, the missionaries who frequented the region and the Native Americans who resided there.

While it may not be time to bundle up to sit int he bleachers yet, it is time to break out the tailgate foods and create game-day feasts.

Whether you’re watching a high school contest or the professionals, games are a social event — and there’s nothing that goes along better with a social event than food and beverages.

Dedicating the Peoples’ Wall

The first painting made in last week’s Paint on Port project sponsored by Port Main Street Inc. was the Peoples’ Wall done by adults with disabilities served by Balance Inc. and Prime Horizon Inc. The wall (above) is a collage of colorful images that reflects the many things about Wisconsin and Port Washington that more than 30 clients of the two nonprofit organizations love.

Port-Saukville staff members kick off the year with a cookout

Sporting T-shirts representing their schools, Port Washington-Saukville School District staff members kicked off the school year with a tailgate-style cookout and games at Port High on Thursday, Aug. 31. Programs to feature impact of area artist

Two programs on noted Cedarburg artist Paul Yank will be held in the coming month.

“Paul Yank: His Genius Sculpture and Prints” is on exhibit at the Cedarburg Art Museum through Sept. 24, and the programs are being held in conjunction with the exhibit.

A studio and gallery tour will be held at the Ozaukee Art Center, W62 N718 Riveredge Dr., Cedarburg, from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.

A reception with light refreshments and drinks will follow at the Cedarburg Art Museum, where those attending can view the exhibit.
