Running back also among local players chosen All-Region
Cedar Grove-Belgium running back Alex Giles is again among Wisconsin’s elite in high-school football.
The senior halfback, who rushed for 1,615 yards and 19 touchdowns this season, has been named to the Associated Press All-State second team.
Giles also caught 11 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Rockets win their second straight Cen-tral Lakeshore Con-ference title.
Giles, who is Cedar Grove-Belgium’s career rushing leader, received AP All-State first-team honors last year.
He and several other area players are members of this season’s East Central All-Region team announced by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association.
Joining Giles on the all-region offensive unit are Cedar Grove-Belgium lineman Alex May, Ozaukee wide receiver Steve Street and Grafton tight end Beau Benzschawel.
May and Street, both seniors, were also named to the all-region defensive unit as a lineman and back, respectively. They are among six players chosen for the honor on both sides of the ball.
May had 25 tackles on defense, including three for losses and one sack. His blocking skills as an offensive lineman helped Giles rush for more than 5,000 career yards.
Street caught 35 passes for 537 yards and nine touchdowns. On defense, he had 40 tackles, including 15 solos, and intercepted one pass.
Benzschawel, a junior, had 11 receptions for 201 yards and two touchdowns.
The East Central Region includes teams from the Central Lakeshore, North Shore, Eastern Wisconsin, Trailways Large, Trailways Small and Greater Metro conferences.
