Illinois man wins overall title in Belgium 5K race while spouse races to first place in women’s field
Racing to top honors became a family affair at the eighth annual Green Heart Run and Walk in Belgium last Saturday.
Tyler Zwagerman, 28, of Champaign, Ill., emerged as the overall winner in the 5-kilometer race. He crossed the finish line in 16 minutes, 4 seconds.
His wife Jenny Zwagerman, 26, was the top female finisher with a time of 18:42.
More than 80 runners took part in the race. A 5K fun walk attracted more than a dozen participants.
The road events, held in conjunction with Luxembourg Fest, were presented and sponsored by the Belgium Chamber of Commerce.
Proceeds from the run/walk benefit the festival, chamber and Luxembourg American Cultural Society and Center in Belgium.
The top overall male and female runners received trophies. Medals were awarded to the three fastest runners in each age division.
