With defending champion Cedarburg having wrapped up another Northern Division title, itâs up to other Land Oâ Lakes baseball teams to fight for runner-up honors.
Saukville took over sole possession of second place by winning a pair of games last week, most recently a 19-3 thumping of Port Washington on Sunday.
The Saints, who improved to 8-5, scored in each of the first five frames on the way to a mercy-rule victory in seven innings.
With the game tied at 3-3, Saukville erupted for eight runs in the second inning. Sam Matthies sparked the rally with a three-run homer.
The Saints outhit Port, 19-7. Leading the assault were Ian Tucker with four hits and six RBI and Matthies and Cole Granrath with three hits each.
Port got two hits apiece from Kyle Kichura and Ryan Romens, as well as a solo homer from Josh Stanisch.
Casey Johnson pitched a complete game for the win.
Port saw its fifth-place record fall to 6-8.
Cedarburg (14-0) kept a firm grip on the divisionâs top spot with a 14-2 win over Thiensville-Mequon on Sunday that clinched the regular-season crown.
