The Port Washington volleyball team made Parents Night a success Sept. 22 by defeating Whitefish Bay for its first North Shore Conference win of the season.

The Pirates started strong, winning the first two games, 25-16 and 25-23. After a 25-23 loss in the third game, Port rallied for a 28-26 victory in the deciding game of the match.PORT WASHINGTON’S Caity Tydrick set the ball for a teammate in the face of a tall challenge from a Sheboygan Lutheran blocker during Saturday‘s Port Invitational. The Pirates overcame a seven-point deficit for what coach Deb Miller described as “an amazing win.”

Port’s leaders included Brynna Prellwitz and Caity Tydrick, who each served seven aces.

Mikayla Hilton and Brittany Swartwout had eight and seven kills, respectively.

Kelsey Lilly led the team with 14 assists. Alex Stammer had 31 service receptions and 16 digs.

Last Saturday, the Pirates shared third place in their annual home invitational.

Milwaukee Lutheran won the title, and Sheboygan Lutheran was second. Port tied for third with Shorewood.

This week, the Pirates will play at Germantown at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and participate in the Ozaukee Tournament in Fredonia on Saturday.

On Oct. 4, Port will host Cedarburg in a Senior Night match at 6:30 p.m.
