Peiffer outraces storm, field of more than 60 on way to top honors in 2nd annual City of Seven Hills event
The threat of inclement weather did little to keep hard-nosed athletes from tackling the City of Seven Hills Triathlon in Port Washington last Saturday morning. Beating a pending storm and the rest of the field, Danielle Peiffer emerged as the overall winner in the second annual event.
Peiffer, 36, of Port Washington, conquered a course that included a 2/10ths of a mile swim in Pirates’ Hollow Waterpark, followed by a 12-mile bike ride and 3-mile run on city streets.
Peiffer finished in 1 hour, 1 minute, 58 seconds, including transition periods between events. She completed the swim in 4:22, the bike ride in 34:17 and the run in 21:41.
Close behind in a three-way fight for the title were the top two male entrants — runner-up Ben Kultgen of Grafton and Eagan Norman of Port Washington.
Kultgen, 21, finished in 1:02.05. Norman, last year’s overall winner, was clocked in 1:02.07.
The runner-up among females was Khara Schelach, who finished in 1:07:12.
The winning team was Traffic Bond, consisting of Warren Graham, Travis Peterson and Brian Schaefer. Their collaborative time was 1:17:04.
A total of 65 people, including 34 from Port Washington, registered in advance for this year’s event, which was organized by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. All but four registrants participated.
