Alex Dieringer graduated from Port Washington High School last spring as the most decorated wrestler in school history.imag Alex Dieringer
But that doesn’t mean the honors have stopped coming for the former Pirates’ standout.
Dieringer continued to shine in the mat spotlight last month by winning a pair of titles in the Cadet and Junior Nationals tournament in Fargo, N.D.
Going undefeated in 21 matches, Dieringer won the 152-pound Junior title in Greco-Roman competition and the Junior freestyle crown at 160.
For his efforts, he was named the tournament’s most outstanding freestyle wrestler.
Dieringer’s sweep of top honors gives him five national titles at the USA Wrestling tournament, which annually attracts the country’s top high school wrestlers.
In March, Dieringer capped an outstanding career at Port High by winning his third WIAA state title in four years. He finished with a 172-4 career record with the Pirates and will attend Oklahoma State University this fall on a wrestling scholarship.
Dieringer was one of nine Port wrestlers who took part in the national tournament as members of Team Wisconsin.
Participating in the Junior Nationals were Tyler Griswold (freestyle, Greco-Roman), Adam Dreikosen (Greco-Roman), Josh Meins (freestyle, Greco-Roman) and Tyler Brown (Greco-Roman).
Wrestling in the Cadet freestyle and Greco-Roman competition were Jordan Dieringer, Nathan Schnell, Tyler Madden and Zach Smith.
