Port, CG-Belgium advance to sectional PDF Print E-mail

The Port Washington and Cedar Grove-Belgium baseball teams advanced to the sectional round of the WIAA playoffs by winning regional title games Tuesday night.

Port pulled off a major upset by rallying to defeat top-seeded Nicolet, 6-5, at Stormonth Field in Fox Point.

The eighth-seeded Pirates trailed, 5-2, in the seventh innings but scored four runs with two outs. After Taylor Devenport singled in a run, Max Kaske’s three-run homer capped the
comeback.

Port will face fourth-seeded Whitefish Bay in a sectional semifinal game at Bay at 10 a.m. Friday. Bay defeated Brown Deer, 4-0, on Tuesday.

The sectional title contest is at 4 p.m. Friday at Bay.

Host Cedar Grove-Belgium defeated Campbellsport, 6-2, behind Josh Ruppel. The Rockets’ junior pitched the first six innings for the win and had three hits.

Cedar Grove-Belgium (seeded fourth in its sectional) will play West Bend West in a sectional semifinal at 11 a.m. Friday in Campbellsport. Top-seeded West defeated Random Lake, 8-0,
on Tuesday.

The sectional final is at 5 p.m. Friday at Campbellsport.

In other local regional games Tuesday, Grafton and Ozaukee were both eliminated from the tournament with road losses.

Grafton was edged by Homestead, 5-3, and Ozaukee fell to West Bend East, 6-0.
