One bad stretch sent the Cedar Grove-Belgium girls’ soccer team to its sixth straight defeat to start the season Monday.
The Rockets lost, 3-2, at Elkhart Lake in the makeup of a Central Lakeshore Conference game postponed April 5.
“The pattern hasn’t changed — we don’t capitalize on our opportunities,” Cedar Grove-Belgium coach Elias Garza said.
“We had an eight-minute stretch in the first half where we gave up three goals.”
Trailing, 3-0, the Rockets got on the board with a goal from Briana Weyker, who scored just before intermission with an assist from fellow sophomore Halie Schieffer.
Schieffer added a goal in the 60th minute, assisted by Brooke Koepsell.
“We managed to apply more pressure in the second half,” said Garza, who added that the Rockets had several more good scoring chances but couldn’t slip a shot past the Elkhart Lake keeper.
Cedar Grove-Belgium outshot the Resorters, 12-11. Goalie Alyssa Schmitt had five saves for the Rockets.
The loss dropped Cedar Grove-Belgium to 0-4 in league play.
“These are tough losses, yet I know with their hard work, desire and determination, we will soon be able to finish one of these games in the win column,” Garza said.
This week, the Rockets were scheduled to play a makeup game at Howards Grove on Tuesday and host Ozaukee at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Garza said Thursday’s game was moved to Cedar Grove because of damage to Ozaukee’s field.
