Challenges from pair of contenders come up short in village balloting

The three incumbents on the Saukville Village Board withstood a challenge from two hopefuls in Tuesday’s election to earn new two-year terms.

Winning trustee seats in the five-way race were incumbents Robert Hamann, Daniel Sauer and Jen Schoenfeldt.

Schoenfeldt, 33, 102 W. Fransee La., emerged as the top vote-getter with 184 votes. She was first elected to the board in 2006.

Sauer, 29, 697 W. Dekora St., won a second term on the board with 162 votes. He was first elected trustee in 2008.

Hamann, 69, 644 W. Briarknoll Ct., secured the final board seat with 148 votes. He has been a trustee since 2003.

Eliminated in the polling were Stacey Frey, who received 117 votes, and Brian Peschel, who collected 82 votes.

Frey, 43, executive director of the Saukville Chamber of Commerce for the past six years, was making her first bid for village office.

Peschel, 37, was a candidate for trustee in 2009 and a write-in candidate in 2007. He is a member of the Library Board.

Peschel said his intention in running was to bring “fresh blood” to the board.
