Appearance part of group’s annual State of the Community dinner

Gov. Scott Walker is scheduled to speak Wednesday, Jan. 29, during the Saukville Chamber of Commerce State of the Community dinner.

The dinner will be held at the Saukville American Legion Hall, 601 W. Dekora St., starting with a social hour at 5 p.m.

Chamber Executive Director Sherri Yandry said Walker is tentatively scheduled to arrive shortly before 6 p.m., speak for about 30 minutes and then take questions.

Yandry said circumstances led to the governor’s appearance.

“At one of our board meetings, we were discussing our annual State of the Community event and the success we had in 2013 when we expanded our slate of speakers to include a representative of county government and the school district,” she said

“One of our board members suggested we broaden our scope further and invite the governor. Although we considered it unlikely that Gov. Walker would be available on the date we had scheduled, we decided to give it a try, thinking that perhaps we could host another event if he was interested in speaking in our area.”

In January, the Chamber learned Walker had accepted the invitation.

Yandry said the governor’s staff warned her that his appearances are never guaranteed because pressing state matters take priority.

“We don’t have details yet regarding his speech. We will have further conversations with his team over the next few days and I’m sure we’ll have more information then,” Yandry said.

Presentations are also expected from Village President Barb Dickmann, Ozaukee County Board Chairman Lee Schlenvogt and Saukville Elementary School Principal Chad Brakke.

The buffet dinner will include prime rib or chicken Pomodoro and a range of side dishes.

The cost is $25 for Chamber members and $35 for non-members.

Space is limited. The reservation deadline is Friday, Jan. 24. To save a seat, call 268-1970 or register on-line at www.saukvillechamber.org.
