Road construction headaches come and go, but the change of seasons can’t be stopped — and with it the arrival of the Saukville farmers market.

The first market of the season will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at Veterans Park.

If weather cooperates, the market will have an 18-week season, running through Oct. 30. There will be no markets on July 3 or Sept. 4, because of the Independence Day and Labor Day holidays.

Vendor registration is being handled by Community Development Director Brian Biernat at Village Hall. A full-season permit costs $100, and a half-season permit (covering any nine Sundays) costs $50.

Each vendor will be allocated a 36-by-22-foot space, approximately the size of two car lengths. Stalls will be set up in the parking lane on East Green Bay Avenue and in the park.

As in the past, police will set up barricades blocking off East Green Bay Avenue from Highway 33 to Mill Street.

The road will be blocked from 7:30 a.m. until the last vendor has left.

Vendors will sell fresh-cut flowers, produce and crafts. The village’s market guidelines dictate that all produce must be “in season, Wisconsin grown.”

Prepared foods will also be sold, subject to state licensing requirements.

The market guidelines also note that organizers will “uniformly enforce rules prohibiting price gouging, loud hawking of ware, objectionable behavior, the sale of live animals and rummage sale items or crafts that are not of artisan quality.”
